Honda gets new CEO

Honda Motor, Honda’s car division, gets a new top man. Toshihiro Mibe is the name, a man who has worked for Honda for no less than 34 years and is currently still Senior Managing Director.

After six years, Takahiro Hachigo steps down as CEO of Honda Motor. The best man is 61 and, as far as is known, is now retiring, he is leaving Honda in any case. His successor is ready to take over the duties of the CEO on 1 April. Toshihiro Mibe, not much younger than Hachigo at 59, is a proven strength within Honda. In 1987 he started working for the Japanese manufacturer, to rise to the higher echelons of the company in 2012.

In recent years, Mibe has served as R&D chief, head of powertrains, head of automotive production and senior managing officer of Honda Motor. Not the least functions. Now he is given the specific task of Honda to lead the car division through a ‘new global phase’, by which the company undoubtedly refers to the transformation to electric driving. Under Hachigo, who is extensively thanked by Honda for his leadership, an important goal in this area has already emerged. After all, from the end of 2022, Honda will only sell cars with a (partly) electric drive here in Europe. Mibe’s task is to map out the route for the longer term.
