Honda joins the FCA and Tesla CO2 pool. This is evident from an application submitted to the European Commission. Honda hopes to reduce the emissions of its European model range. The sales numbers of Honda’s electrified models are in fact not sufficient.
According to automotive researcher Matthias Schmidt, Honda has sold 1,000 units of the Honda E so far in Western Europe. The mischievous EV therefore accounts for only 2 percent of Honda’s total sales. Apparently that is not enough to achieve the emission standard of an average of 95 grams of CO2 per km, because, according to Schmidt, an application to the European Commission shows that Honda wants to join the open CO2 pool of FCA and Tesla. It is not known under what conditions Honda has joined the group. Tesla is in the meantime benefiting from this, because the American car manufacturer is running this year thanks to the pool of black figures.
The Honda E is currently the only EV in the brand’s range. The Jazz and CR-V are available as a hybrid, but that’s where the electrification ends. The Japanese are working on a plug-in hybrid variant of the CR-V. For now, however, Honda has to make do with the CO2 pool to bring the average emissions down. The brand is certainly not the only one with that. Volkswagen has formed a pool with SAIC, Ford and Volvo are working together and Renault still has a CO2 pool open. Jaguar Land Rover may still be interested in this in the future.
