Acura pulled the curtain on the Precision EV Concept during Monterey Car Week in California. The Precision EV Concept is a study model with which the brand gives away to a certain extent the design language with which it infuses its future electric cars.
Acura is quite unknown in Europe. In a nutshell, Acura is to Honda what Infiniti is to Nissan and Lexus is to Toyota. During the annual Monterey Car Week, of which the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach is perhaps the most famous part, Acura introduced a brand new study model: the Precision EV Concept.

Those who have followed the Acura news closely in recent years may remember that the brand also presented a study model called Precision in 2016. With the show car shown in January 2016, Acura broadly showed what you could expect from future models of the brand in terms of design. The Precision EV Concept starring in this article fulfills that same role, although this time Acura looks ahead to the design of the electric models it will introduce in the coming years.

Nothing against the design work provided by Acura, but the design language that the brand provides for its EVs is not very different from what you already know about the brand. On the other hand, given the recognizability of Acura’s cars, that is perhaps only a good thing. We see a sleek SUV with flat lighting on both the front and rear, light units that are filled in with spurs on the corners. The Precision EV Concept has a closed ‘Diamond Pentagaon’ muzzle with striking colored LED trim. You do not have to expect such conceptual design jokes in practice, just like the missing door handles. The same applies to the interior, which looks very futuristic.

Does the Precision EV Concept also contain a somewhat concrete preview of a new model? Secure. Broadly speaking, here you see Acura’s version of the upcoming Honda Prologue. Like that Prologue, Acura’s electric SUV will be on a General Motors platform. Both SUVs are planned for 2024, but the Prologue is not known to come to Europe. Neither does the Acura version, as Acura is not active in Europe. Honda will, among other things, bring an electrical equivalent of the HR-V to the European market in 2023.
