Honda must shut down British production

Honda has been forced to shut down production at the British factory in Swindon. There is a problem with the supply of parts.

The factory in Swindon, where Honda builds the Civic and various engines, was able to close its doors after just one day of operation in 2021. That reports Reuters. There was still production on Monday, but on Tuesday and Wednesday things stopped. There is a shortage of parts. Various causes are mentioned for this. The pandemic is the biggest. As a result, there would have been shortages worldwide of parts that go to Swindon, among other things, and the transport would be disrupted to such an extent that several containers are not yet at their destination.

Another reason is of course Brexit. The ‘hoarding’ of parts prior to Brexit is now leading to a shortage at Honda. These are probably universal parts supplied by competing manufacturers en masse to avoid production delays. Honda declares that it wants to restart production on Thursday. A complicated start to what is already a sad year for the Swindon factory. This year, Honda is pulling the plug.
