Honda recalls 2019 CB500 family over possible brake pressure loss

Honda has rolled out a recall for the 2019 CB500F, CB500X and CBR500R. In the ABS modulator, too much grease may have been applied to the o-ring of the piston, which can lead to a loss of pressure and consequently a longer braking distance.

Incorrect management of the tools used to apply the grease has, according to Honda, been the cause of the ABS modulator problem, which was first reported in Portugal.

Too much grease may have been applied to the piston o-ring in the ABS modulator. Research has shown that over time the excess grease moves towards the pressure relief valve and becomes contaminated, allowing it to get between the valve and create a leak in the brake pressure, resulting in a longer braking distance.

The recall affects the CBR500R with production dates August 26, 2019 to December 20, 2019, CB500F – July 31, 2019 to December 15, 2019, and the CB500X – June 20, 2019 to January 17, 2020.
