Honda has rolled out a recall for the CMX1100 Rebel, the CRF1100 Africa Twin, the CB750 Hornet and the XL750 Transalp. As a result of incorrectly manufactured carter bolts, engine oil can seek along the bolts and the Carter pan, so that it can splash on the rear tire.
During a production inspection in the factory, Honda discovered an oil leak at two CB1000 models and an investigation started. Honda analyzed the two engines and discovered that the thread of the bolts was not according to specification for attaching the crankcase pan.
Honda continued the research and discovered several engines in the warehouse whose carter bolts were not properly detained. With the relevant bolts, the thread turned out not to be according to specification.
At the beginning of this year, Honda received a report from the Japanese market from CB1000 engines with oil leak. The supplier had discovered that when rolling the thread the bolt was incorrectly positioned in the machine, so that it was not in accordance with specification. To prevent that, the production process was adjusted.
However, the problem turned out to be more comprehensive. At the beginning of March 2025, Honda received a report from the German market to a CB750 Hornet, at the end of March a report followed from the Polish market to an XL750 Transalp. Honda realized that the problem went much further than just the CB1000 in Japan and started a wide investigation into the affected engines.
This resulted in a recall for the 2025 CMX1100 Rebel, the 2025 CRF1100 Africa Twin, the 2025 XL750 Transalp and the 2025 CB750 Hornet. The Carter bolts will be replaced at the Honda dealer.
