Hot role: application and effect

With the hot roller we introduce you to a simple therapeutic remedy for pain and for massage. All you need is a towel and water.

The hot roll is a rolled up towel soaked in warm water that provides soothing warmth. It is part of hydrotherapy, which is often used in preparation for physiotherapy. You can also easily use the hot roller yourself at home.

The heat causes the blood vessels under the skin to expand. This can, among other things, promote blood circulation, relieve pain or tension and stimulate the healing of wounds.

All you need for the hot role is:

  • at least one towel, which should not be too big
  • hot water, preferably heated in a kettle

The instructions for the hot roll

1. Lay the towel spread out in front of you and fold it lengthwise.

2. Roll the towel very tightly starting from the short end. This should create a funnel. You achieve this effect by not rolling the towel completely congruently, i.e. not completely evenly. Instead, make sure that you always leave the towel overhanging a little on one side.

3. After this procedure, roll up the towel completely.

4. Take the roll in your hand and make sure that it remains tightly and tightly rolled.

5. To make the roll a hot roll, pour some hot water into the middle of the funnel, one piece at a time.

6. Once the core of the towel is about two-thirds full, you can start using it. Do the test and turn your hot roll over: If the roll is well wound, no water will drip out of the roll.

Tip: You can wrap a second towel around the hot roll if your first towel was relatively small or the hot roll is too hot for you.

The application of the hot roller

Now you can use the hot roller:

  • Since the hot roller is initially very hot, you should initially only dab the affected areas with light, short pressure.
  • If the hot roller has cooled down a little after a while, you can also dab the skin with longer movements. The dabbed area may turn a little red, but it should not feel uncomfortable.
  • If the hot roller has cooled down on the outside, you can repeat the application by rolling out the towel and rolling it up again on the other side.
  • If you want to end the application, finally spread the entire towel on the affected area. It can remain there until it cools down.
  • Afterwards, you should keep the treated area warm with a blanket or clothing.
