Who invented ‘counting’ when?
Asker: Yvonne, 50 years old
Answer
Hello,
who counted first is of course unknown. The first traces of real counts can be found as indentations made on a prehistoric bone, the so-called Ishango bone (named after the place in Congo where it was found). These indentations make it clear that a system was used for counting. The Ishango bone dates back to 22,000 BC! This is one of the earliest evidence that prehistoric man counted.
