How do I join the Google Bard waiting list?

Google Bard

A newcomer to the world of AI, Google Bard is Google’s answer to other ChatGPT-style chatbots. As with other chatbots, it works on a system of questions or instructions written by the user and answers provided by the AI, which is based on its sources. Google describes its tool as a “creative and useful collaborator”, which can help both to prepare personal and professional projects and to explain complex subjects simply.

Problem, for the moment, the tool is only available in English, only for the inhabitants of the United Kingdom and the United States and it is necessary to register on a waiting list to be able to access it. If we can’t help you master Shakespeare’s language quickly, we’ll show you how to get on Google Bard’s waitlist using your current French Gmail account and a VPN.

Step 1: prepare your Gmail account and VPN

1. Open an incognito window

This step is optional, but to avoid any problems later with cookies that could block your registration despite your VPN, we recommend that you perform this tutorial in a private browsing window. We explain in this dedicated article how to open a private browsing window in the majority of browsers.

2. Go to the Gmail site to log in

The first essential step is to go to the Gmail site in order to be able to log in to your account. To do this, click the Connect button. If you do not yet have a Gmail account, you can create one for free, as we explain in the tutorial: How to create a Gmail account?

Once on the login page, enter your credentials and confirm. You can use a French Gmail account for this tutorial, however, it is necessary to respect some conditions:

  • the Gmail account must be a personal account and not an organization account
  • The user of this account must be 18 years or older.

3. Open your VPN and connect to a server in the United States

Open the VPN of your choice and log in to your account. Here, we have chosen to use CyberGhost, a VPN that we recommend and that you can try for free for 24 hours.

In your VPN’s menus, look for a server located in the United States. Because the country is a popular choice for VPN users, servers located there often feature prominently in listings.

Joining Google Bard’s Waiting List: Answers to Problems You May Have

My VPN cannot connect to the United States

If your VPN can’t connect to the US for some reason, Google Bard is also available for users in the UK. Our tutorial can therefore be followed by connecting to a VPN server in the UK.

I can’t register, even though I’m located in the right place

If you’re having trouble signing up for Google Bard’s waitlist even though your VPN is locating you in the right place, there are a few things you can do to check. First, make sure your Google Account is a personal account and not an organization account. Next, verify that the date of birth listed on your Google Account makes you over 18. Finally, if you haven’t done so, delete your cookies or open a private browsing window and repeat the steps described above. Last solution if nothing works, create a new Gmail address only to subscribe to the Google Bard waiting list.
