Artificial intelligence has already become an integral part of our lives and continues to grow rapidly – but at the expense of climate protection. Because the data centers required for AI consume enormous amounts of energy and water and also release plenty of greenhouse gases. By 2030, this environmental problem will probably have tightened again, as a new report suggests.

“Chatgpt, can you quickly search for a recipe for vegan brownies?” – “How do I say politely without hurt someone?” – “What does ‘pov’ mean?” More and more people have a similar chat course with AI tools. And artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important not only in private, but also for companies and new technologies. But all of this is at the expense of the environment, because the required data centers have high greenhouse gas emissions and also need large amounts of water and electricity-and the trend is rising.
