Three-cylinder 1.0 CVVT

Right from its introduction, the Kia Picanto has been a resounding success. In the Netherlands, this still leads to great sales figures every year, with which the compact Kia has been king of the A-segment for many years. Reviewers appreciate it for its mature driving and beautifully finished interior, but what about the gas mileage in daily use?
In 2022, the Kia Picanto was again the most popular small car in the Netherlands. It takes second place in the national sales charts with 6,606 units sold. The current Picanto has been running since 2017 and received a subtle facelift in 2020. The most popular 1.0-litre engine is equipped with a new injection system, which should lead to lower consumption and corresponding emissions. In the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor we mainly see the ‘old’ three-cylinder 1.0 CVVT, also known as MPI.
With this 1.0 CVVT under the hood, owners of the Kia Picanto achieve an average consumption of 5.8 liters per 100 km, which corresponds to 1 in 17.4. That is 34 percent higher than the 1 to 23.2 stated by the factory. This deviation is not unusual, but it is significantly higher than the practical consumption of a Hyundai i10. Would drivers of the sportier-looking Kia have a more spirited driving style?
New engine, lower consumption?
Does the new injection system of the new 1.0 DPi actually lead to lower consumption? That cannot be said on the basis of one value in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor. However, the owner of this new Kia Picanto has already driven 27,000 km with an average fuel consumption of 1 to 19.2.
Do you own a Kia Picanto and do you want to know whether your car consumes more or less fuel than average? Then keep track of your refueling in the AutoWeek Consumption Monitor!
