WhatsApp instant messaging offers a new, simpler and more secure way to access your user account with passwords. Here’s how to enable the option on your phone.
To connect to WhatsApp, it is essential to link your account to a telephone number and enter a password. However, the password can pose some security problems if it is too simple and discovered. Additionally, forgetting your password can be very expensive. As conversations are encrypted, it is impossible to find your conversation history if you have lost your access code, as WhatsApp does not keep any clear copies of messages on its servers.
To make life easier for users and guarantee the security of conversations, Meta announced a few weeks ago the arrival of passkeys on WhatsApp, a simpler way to log in to your account without using a password.

What is a passkey?
The passkey is a new security standard, developed by the FIDO Alliance, and supported by the largest tech companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Google.
Passkeys are identification keys linked to your smartphone, your tablet or your PC. Rather than entering your password each time you log in, the passkey allows you to use the biometric identification of your mobile or desktop device, such as facial recognition or a fingerprint sensor.
The passkey is synchronized with your different devices. If you are an Apple fan, the passes are available through your iCloud account on all of your access points. The same goes for Google, which uses Chrome’s built-in password manager to sync your credentials across all your connected devices, regardless of brand or operating system.
How to activate a passkey on WhatsApp?
1. Go to WhatsApp settings
To set up your passkey, open the WhatsApp application on your smartphone, then click on the “Settings” button at the bottom right of the screen.
2. Go to your account settings
Then click on the “Account” option to access your user account settings.
3. Start creating your passkey
If you are familiar with the WhatsApp application, you will spot the new “Access Key” option in the list of options. Click on the latter to start the procedure.
4. Create your access key
A window will give you some information about the access key. Click on “Create access key” to begin creating your key.
5. Validate using your biometric sensor
A system window asks you to authenticate, using a fingerprint, or in our example Face ID facial recognition. The key will be created after identification.
6. Your passkey is created
From now on, each time you log in to WhatsApp, you will be asked for biometric authentication instead of the password.
