Did you know that it is possible to comment a WinRAR archive to leave a message to users who will open your archive?
In this tutorial, we will tell you how to add comments to a WinRAR archive. The comment can be written on the moment or from a document in text format that you can integrate into the archive.
Add comments to a new WinRAR archive
1. Open WinRAR and select files to archive
As soon as your files or folders are archived, you will be able to add a comment.
In WinRAR, select the items you want to archive, then click “Add”, in the menu with icons.
2. Go to the comment section
In the “Name and parameters of the archive” window, click on the “Comment” tab, this is the third in the first line.
3. Add comments to your WinRAR archive
You have two ways to choose from to add a comment to the archive creation:
- Write your comment in the “Enter comment manually” text field.
OR
- Click “Browse” to find a text file containing the comment you want to appear on the WinRAR archive.
Validate by clicking on the “OK” button at the bottom right of the “Name and parameters of the archive” window. Comments appear in the right part of the window.
You can read them, select them to copy them, but not modify them from this window.

Open your compressed folder in WinRAR (without unzipping it), click “Comment” in the menu bar at the top of the WinRAR main window.

A new window then opens directly on the “Comment” tab.
You have two ways to choose from to add/modify a comment on your WinRAR archive:

OR
