Cleaning the blender, a chore we could do without

Like all other kitchen appliances, a blender can be cleaned. But how to proceed? In which order ? We tell you everything you need to know about cleaning your blender (classic, Mix&Go and heating).

Summary

Why do you need to clean your blender?

Cleaning your blender thoroughly after each use is important. For what ? Already, to eliminate bacteria. A simple rinse with hot water is not enough: you have to wipe it with a sponge, literally! A few drops of dishwashing liquid (or any other product with cleaning properties), and your blender will be as good as new.

But cleaning isn’t just about hygiene: it helps extend the life of your blender. Blades, for example, last longer if they are cleaned and dried properly after blending and blending good preparations.

In addition, maintaining the blender helps preserve the aromas. Some foods may have a strong odor that clings to the sides of the bowl. To eliminate odors, a good cleaning with soapy water or white vinegar is sufficient.

Clean your blender in 3 simple steps

Step 1: Clean the Container

Cleaning the container (or bowl) is an essential step for all types of blenders: non-heating, Mix&Go or heated. Regardless of which model you have, cleaning is done the same way.

Remove the lid from the bowl and the bowl from the base, then fill it with hot water. Pour a little dishwashing liquid into it. You can add white vinegar to ensure that strong odors disappear, depending on the preparations you have just made. And if you’re looking for a more eco-friendly alternative to dishwashing liquid, simply replace it with baking soda.

Leave the bowl for a few minutes: the dry pieces of food in your preparation (such as a piece of dried fruit) will soften, and will be easier to clean afterwards. Then, you can put the lid back on the container, which you rest on its base. There, start the device, as if you wanted to mix a preparation. Propelled onto the walls of the container, the soapy water will clean thoroughly. After about ten seconds, stop the appliance then rinse the bowl. If you notice some residue remaining on the sides of the bowl, repeat the process or use a sponge to remove it by hand.

Dry the bowl and lid with a clean, dry cloth, or let them air dry naturally in your kitchen.

Step 2: Clean the Blades

Cleaning the blades is a little simpler and quicker than cleaning the container. Collect the blades that are at the bottom of the bowl. Rinse them with hot water, then gently clean them with a sponge dampened with dishwashing liquid to remove food residue and bacteria. If you prefer, you can soak them in a basin of hot water with dishwashing liquid or baking soda. In all cases, you will need to use a sponge to remove any residue that may be stuck to it.

As with the bowl, you have the choice of drying method: in the open air or by hand with a cloth.

Step 3: clean the blender base

The base, or base of the blender, must be cleaned in the same way as the bowl and the blades. However, you do not have to do this after each use: it depends on its condition. But if a few drops of preparation have fallen on the base, it is better to give it a quick wipe with a sponge.

Unplug the appliance, then use a sponge soaked in dishwashing liquid or baking soda, then clean the base and the connection cable. Dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth.

After using your blender, you should always clean it. If you don’t have time to do it right away, soak it and come back to it later. The main thing is to do it well every time you start a preparation, regardless of the type of blender. If cleaning is a task that puts you off, there are solutions available to you. You can choose a blender that is easy to clean, or even an innovative model with a self-cleaning function.
