Do you have a Spotify subscription and do you use a smartwatch with Wear OS on board? Then we have good news. From now on it is possible to make music available offline on that smart watch when you use this music streaming service.
Spotify announced the new feature in early August. It didn’t take long for that feature to arrive. The promise was: within a few weeks you can start using the functionality. Not long after, some users on Reddit announced that they already had access to the new option, so the needed update has started rolling out.
When you have received the update, you can make music available offline on your smartwatch with Wear OS on board. Wear OS is an operating system from Google, suitable for smartwatches, which is very similar to android. When you have made the music available offline on your smartwatch, you no longer have to take your phone with you. It is therefore ideal for runners and cyclists who prefer to take to the streets or enter the gym with as few devices as possible. So they can still listen to their favorite music.
Keep in mind that the functionality is only available to those with a Premium subscription to Spotify. You can listen to albums, playlists and podcast offline. Free users can only listen to podcasts in offline mode. The function has been available for the Apple Watch for a while, for the watchOS users among us.
Download Spotify music on Wear OS
Fortunately, making your music available offline on Wear OS is very simple. You just need to follow the steps below.
- Open the Spotify application on your smartwatch with Wear OS.
- Find the music or podcasts you want to listen to offline.
- Then tap the download button to download the music to your smartwatch.
- Want to see how far the downloads are? Then go to the downloads section within the app. When content is available offline, you will see a green arrow (just like the offline music that is present on your smartphone).
- Connect a set of wireless earphones to your smartwatch and you can start listening.
To be able to use this option, you must ensure that you have at least Wear OS 2.0 on your smartwatch. You can find that version of the software on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic.
