With a gradual opening of the two main France TV channels to 4K UHD, namely France 2 and France 3, it is now possible to enjoy numerous TNT programs in Ultra High Definition from your television or video projector. The opportunity to enjoy upcoming major sporting events with much better image (and also sound) quality than before.

Available thanks to TNT coverage, but also by satellite (Fransat) and gradually deployed by various Internet service providers, France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD now broadcast not only in 4K UHD, but also in HDR10. All with a frame rate that goes from 25 to 50 frames per second, and with Dolby AC4 or Dolby Atmos sound. We will explain to you without further delay how to take advantage of it so as not to miss anything from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

How to access France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD from TNT

Available since the end of January with progressive activation of transmitters until the end of May, France 2 UHD is the first TNT channel broadcast in 4K Ultra HD. It will be followed by France 3 UHD which will be active from July 10.

To benefit from it, your television must support four standards, which are today found in 70% of televisions which equip French homes, namely 4K UHD, HDR10, the DVB-broadcast standard. T2, as well as the HEVC compression standard. In other words, if you have a television that is less than 7 or 8 years old, you should be able to receive the new UHD channels from France Télévisions without any problem.

From then on, nothing could be simpler to take advantage of these channels. In mainland France, France 2 UHD broadcasts on channel 52, while France UHD broadcasts on channel 53. Overseas, channels 22 and 23 have respectively been allocated to France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD.

Some televisions will automatically offer to install these new channels. On others, it will sometimes be necessary to run a channel scan in the TV settings in order to detect these two new channels. For greater convenience and to be sure to watch these channels in 4K UHD, the ideal remains to use channel renumbering in order to position channels 52 and 53 in place of channels 2 and 3.

The handling is similar on many televisions of different brands. Samsung, for example, explains the procedure to follow in a dedicated article, just like Hisense, Sony, LG, Panasonic and others. The setting is simple in most cases since you just need to edit the channel by assigning it a new number.

How to enjoy it on your TV decoder

France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD are also gradually arriving on the TX boxes of different operators. Orange is the first to offer its subscribers the benefit of France 2 UHD, for Orange and Sosh fiber customers, on channel 902. To do this, however, you must have a compatible decoder (TV6 or UHD), a fiber offer, and of course a 4K UHD television.

Concerning other operators, such as SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free, after a false start by SFR which had deployed the channel without the agreement of France Télévisions before being withdrawn from broadcasting, we do not yet know an official date for the launch of France 2 UHD on the various decoders of these suppliers.
