Delete the photos and videos received in the iOS messaging app to free up space on your device’s storage.
Managing the storage of a smartphone is not always easy. If the first thing to do to free up space is to get rid of the photos and videos stored on the camera roll, for example by adopting a cloud storage solution such as Google photos or other alternatives, it is also possible to quickly free up space by looking at the content received in Messaging applications.
Recently WhatsApp has integrated a new storage manager thanks to which it is possible to easily consult and delete the numerous photos and videos received in the various conversations present in the application. Doing a little sorting in WhatsApp can in some cases save several gigabytes of storage.
On iOS, Messages, Apple’s messaging app, can do the same. By exploring the many photos and videos exchanged over months, even years, with your loved ones, you will be able to select the items you no longer need and thus be able to free up some storage on your device. Apple offers two options for saving space by cleaning up Messages. Here’s how.
1. Remove large attachments
The storage manager built into iOS offers a dedicated option for deleting the largest photos and videos stored in the conversations of the Message app.
To find the option, open Settings, enter General, and go to the iPhone Storage menu.

You should find a Large Attachments menu there. Enter it, press the Modify button, select the items you want to delete and confirm their deletion by pressing the button appearing in a recycle bin.

2. Delete photos and videos by conversation
The other option available to you is to review all of the discussions stored in Messages. To do this, open the app and enter a conversation.
Then deploy the conversation options by tapping on the avatar of your correspondent, and enter the Info menu.

In the Photos section, press All to access all the photos and videos exchanged in the chat.

Then press Select, choose the items you want to delete and confirm their deletion by pressing Delete.
Repeat the operation for each of the conversations stored in Messages.
