Currently being deployed, the new MIUI 10 interface improves the navigation of Xiaomi smartphones. It is already possible to switch to this version, provided you have the compatible device.
Alongside the Mi 8 in May, Xiaomi announced MIUI 10, the new version of its operating system overlaid with Android 8. This new version brings some nice new features to Chinese smartphones, starting with a slightly more interface. in the mood of time.
Available in beta for several months, MIUI 10 was until now quite painful to install. Indeed, Xiaomi demanded a 14 day wait between the update request and the installation, surely to deter the less motivated users.
Install the stable version today
The Mi 8, Mi Mix 2s and Redmi S2 are among the first smartphones compatible with the final version of the new OS, while the Redmi Note 5 and the Pocophone F1 should soon be served. If theoretically, MIUI 10 will be offered to you directly from the “System update” setting of its Xiaomi smartphone, no date has yet been communicated by the brand for France (despite our requests). Never mind, we explain how to install MIUI 10 right now!
First step, download the “Global ROM” of MIUI 10, from the official site of Xiaomi, in stable version, for the device you are using. You can retrieve it from your PC (and then copy it to your smartphone, preferably at the root) or directly from your smartphone.
Once the ROM has been downloaded, you must rename the file to “update.zip”. It is a mandatory condition for the phone to initiate the update in the next step.
Then go to the Settings of your Xiaomi smartphone, section About this phone then System update. Click on the three small dots at the top right and choose Select an update to install. The file manager then opens, and you must select the famous update.zip. You just have to wait, the update is being installed. We recommend that you back up your smartphone before updating. No data should be lost, but you can never be too careful.

After ten minutes or so, your smartphone will restart under MIUI 10. There will be nothing more to configure.
MIUI 10, the novelties
First new features that you should notice with MIUI 10: the interface has been redesigned. The notification center is much prettier, fuller, and the animations seem less aggressive than in the previous version. The multitasking drawer is also different. It offers quite original navigation in the form of maps. The volume slider passes, for its part, to the right of the screen, as on Android Pie.
We should also note efforts in terms of French translation. MIUI now knows how to display accents correctly and no longer distorts Molière’s language.

Gesture navigation, copied to Apple’s iPhone X, is improved with MIUI 10. Already present in the previous version, it now works directly within the Xiaomi system, and no longer as an application that runs in task background. Performance should therefore be improved.
Other new features of MIUI 10, system sounds. If you are used to Xiaomi, you should notice new tones when you receive notifications or when you press certain buttons.
In the Camera application, selfies are equipped with a portrait mode, based on artificial intelligence, to create a bokeh effect. The same goes for smartphones equipped with a single main camera module.

Last information, if MIUI 10 currently supports Android Oreo (8.1), the operating system will switch to Android Pie (9.0) in a future version, normally before the end of the year. Betas of MIUI 10 Android P version are already available in China for some devices.
A word of caution if you were having fun installing one: China ROMs can create serious incompatibility issues.
