How to leave a conversation on Twitter

How to leave a conversation on Twitter

Tired of a discussion on Twitter? You can now leave a conversation on Twitter. You can read here how to do this so that you are no longer constantly disturbed by it.

When you respond to a Twitter message, you do so automatically by addressing the tweeter via @ followed by his Twitter name. The other person will then receive a notification, so that he can respond to you again. This creates a conversation in which other people regularly get involved. As a result, you are constantly mentioned in comments. Until recently, you couldn’t prevent this, but now Twitter has rolled out a feature that makes it easy to leave a conversation.

This means that your Twitter name will be removed from the conversation and you will no longer receive notifications (including push messages) for the relevant discussion. It also prevents others from tagging you. The new feature will be available to everyone in the coming weeks, no matter what device you use Twitter on.

That is how it works

If you are using the mobile app, make sure to update it to the latest version. Open the app and go to the Twitter post you’re tagged in. Tap the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen. Here you will find the option Leave this conversation. You may not see the option yet. Twitter is rolling out the feature in phases. Then you confirm your choice and you have left the conversation.

The new feature is in a way similar to the option Ignore this conversation, who has been on Twitter for a long time. This also means that you will no longer receive notifications about the conversation in which you are involved. However, the difference with leaving a conversation is that you can still be named in the discussion.

Soon, in addition to ignoring a conversation, you will also be able to leave a conversation.

More new features

Although Tesla CEO Elon Musk has decided to no longer aspire to a Twitter takeover, this does not stop the microblogging site from continuing to innovate. For example, a function is currently being tested that allows you to send a Twitter message into the world together with another user.

There may also be a note-taking feature called Remark, intended for longer messages on Twitter. The note is then processed as a kind of attachment in a Twitter message. The number of characters for a Comment is expanded from the current 280 to 2,500 characters. Enough to share a scientific article or school assignment. It is already possible to read comments, but you cannot use the option yourself yet.
