The latest update of Windows 10 inaugurates a tool to limit data consumption, particularly useful when you connect to mobile tethering.
Among the novelties inaugurated in the last May Update 2020 update for Windows 10, there is one in network settings that should delight users used to connecting to the web using tethering on their smartphone.
Indeed, Windows 10 now allows you to configure a data consumption limit not to be exceeded when you connect to a specific network. Here is how to configure this limit so as not to exceed the data envelope allocated in your mobile data plan.
1. Open Settings
First, connect to the network on which you want to configure a limit. Then open the Windows Start menu and click on the cogwheel icon to go to the operating system Settings.

2. Access the data consumption settings
Then go to the settings dedicated to Network and Internet.

In the Status section, click the Data usage button displayed below the network you are connected to.

3. Modify the limit
In the window that appears, you can view the amount of data consumed by each application used on your PC. To limit this consumption when you are connected, for example, in mobile tethering, click on Enter a limit.

Then select your type of limit, depending on your plan, enter the monthly reset date (if you have opted for a Tours monthly limit), and indicate the maximum amount of data not to be exceeded.

Then validate your settings by clicking on the Save button. Now, when your data consumption is close to the set limit, Windows will send you an alert.
You can then take the necessary measures (change your access point, pay extra to get more data on your subscription, etc.) before you have used up all the data quota allocated to you.
