If you are an avid gamer who loves nothing more than long sessions of Call of Duty or epic virtual adventures in Warcraft, you probably know that your PV needs regular maintenance. We’re not talking about cleaning the CPU case, screen or keyboard (they do need the odd wipe), rather we are referring to inner maintenance, which we delve into in this short blog.
Operating System (OS)
Most gamers are using Windows 10 and there are special clean-up programs that delete unwanted data; you can speed up drives by defragmenting them, which pushes all the data to one end of the drive. The Registry in Windows gets quickly cluttered up and a registry cleaner does a great job of removing invalid entries and that speeds things up, as the OS is not having to scan a huge registry. If anything goes wrong, call the computer repairs in Rockingham and let a technician sort it out.
Scan for viruses
We recommend spending a few dollars on a decent anti-virus software package; set up the program to scan daily in the background and don’t forget to update the virus definition database; new malicious code is released daily and your protection is only good for known viruses. The last thing you need is for your PC to get infected, which could wipe out all your data.
Compressed air
Buy a few cans of compressed air and every couple of months, open the PC case and give the inside a good blow out to remove dust and grime. This is a good time to clean the fan blades on all the case coolers, which helps keep things cool. The fact that you have an airflow means dust enters the casing and the longer you leave it, the more there is. It will eventually cause your machine to overheat.
Upgrades
If you aren’t using DDR4 RAM, now might be the time for an upgrade; if you are running 8Gb of RAM, double it to 16Gb and you will notice the difference. Most gaming rigs run 32Gb of DDR4 or even DDR5 RAM; your local computer repair shop can fit the RAM chips, which they also supply and they will give your PC a full clean and check all components.
Keeping your PC is good order ensures optimum performance.
