To properly separate your documents from the programs or to install another operating system on your machine without losing the first one, create a new partition on your hard drive. It’s easier than it looks, we tell you how to go about it.
Partitioning your computer’s hard drive can be useful for several reasons. By dividing it into several partitions of larger or smaller sizes, data access will be faster and you can, for example, reserve an entire partition to store your data and thus avoid possible losses in the event of a system crash. operating.
Creating a new partition on your PC’s hard drive can also be useful if you plan to install a second operating system.
1. Open the disk manager
Right click on the Start menu then choose Disk Management. The Windows Disk Manager opens and displays the various disks and partitions present on your machine. We will work exclusively on the System C: partition, the other partitions being reserved for system recovery or reinstallation functions, do not touch them.

2. Shrink the primary partition
The main partition of the computer, noted (C :), normally occupies the vast majority of your hard disk space. Select it and then right click choose Shrink Volume.

In the new window that appears, adjust the value of the amount of space to be reduced if necessary, and validate by clicking on Reduce.

3. Create the new partition
A new, unallocated space appears in black. Select it, right click on it and choose New Simple Volume.

The Create Simple Volume Wizard opens. Click Next, adjust the size of the new partition if necessary, and click Next again.

The wizard then asks to assign a letter to the partition to be created. If you are satisfied with the letter assigned by default, click Next.

You are finally asked if you want to format the volume. Select Format this volume, keep the settings selected by default, and optionally choose a name for your volume.

Validate the creation of the partition by clicking on Finish.
