Change your Google Account privacy settings to prevent your Google Home or Google Assistant app from recording what you say to it.
If you appreciate the convenience of being able to ask Google Assistant to search for a cooking recipe online or perform a task by voice, always keep in mind that everything you say to Google’s voice assistant is saved.
Whether through the dedicated application, or a connected speaker, all requests launched to Google Assistant are, by default, recorded and logged in your activity history.
Why ? Because by storing the information you offer it, Google Assistant feeds its artificial intelligence, learns from your habits, improves and is more relevant to answer your requests. However, it is possible to limit what Google’s voice assistant remembers from what you can say to it and even delete the history already saved on your account.
1. Log into your Google activity
First, go to the page dedicated to the history of your activities on Google products and services. From your web browser, go to the page Google My Activity and sign in to your Google account.
2. Disable the recording of your activity on Google Assistant
After signing in to your Google Account activity page, click Activity Controls in the left column.
Scroll down to the Voice and audio activity section. Uncheck the button to disable recording your activity on Google Assistant.
3. Delete your history
Whether you use Google Assistant through the dedicated app on an Android smartphone or iPhone, or call on it from a connected speaker like a Google Home, all requests stored in your history can be deleted.
Click the Manage History menu. The list of all the requests launched on your Google Home speaker or directly on the Google Assistant application appear.
Put a headset on your ears, click the Play button, and you can hear a recording of your soft voice while talking with Google Assistant.
Now click on Delete activity in the left column.
In the page that appears, select a date or period for which you want to delete your history, and click Delete to start deleting your Google activity history.
The deletion carried out here only concerns data related to your voice and audio activities, and more particularly to Google Assistant.
If, however, you are concerned about other personal data that may be kept by the search engine, you can still configure your account to prevent Google from recording your online activities.
