Suspicious accounts have made a bad habit of tagging certain Instagram users to spread spam and other advertising messages. Here’s how to prevent them.
Instagram is sometimes full of surprises. Thousands of fake accounts, often opened very recently, attempt to attract the attention of users by unexpectedly identifying them on irrelevant posts.
Since Instagram natively allows users to tag others in their posts, it’s not uncommon to receive one or more notifications that you’ve been tagged by an account you don’t know and don’t subscribe to. Advertisements, scams and other scammers are having a great time trying to attract people to their nets.
Fortunately, it is possible to put an end to this practice by requesting the obligation to approve identifications before publication. Here’s how to do it.
1. Go to settings
Open Instagram on your smartphone, go to your profile via the dedicated tab and press the “hamburger” menu to finally access the application settings.

2. Open privacy options
Then go to the menu dedicated to Confidentiality. Enter the Tags menu, and change the default option to People You Follow (to be tagged only by accounts you’ve subscribed to), or No one, if you don’t want to be able to be tagged in a post.

Take the opportunity to ask to activate the option Approve identifications manually. Now, whenever an account tries to tag you in a post, that identification will not be visible on their account or on yours until you approve it.
