The processor is the most important component of your computer and care should be taken not to damage it when installing on the motherboard. Here’s how to do it.
When changing the motherboard processor or installing a new PC, the circuit must be handled with care to avoid damaging it. It is not very complicated as long as you follow a few basic rules:
- Do not touch the underside of the processor with your fingers as this could deposit a little grease on the contactors and therefore impair signal conduction.
- Motherboard manufacturers now deliver a small plastic frame that allows you to manipulate the processor without touching it with your fingers. Be sure to match the arrow mark on the cradle with its equivalent on the processor.

- Align the processor and bezel correctly, twist the bezel slightly to move it apart, until you hear a “click”.
- Use the frame to place the processor in the motherboard socket, and then remember to remove the plastic socket.
- Check that the “jaw”, which closes to lock the socket, ends its course under a screw positioned on the motherboard. Then fold down the locking lever by forcing slightly and place its end in the location provided at the jaw.
