Put a misoriented video back in the right direction by rotating it with a few clicks.
A bad adjustment in the settings of your camera or your camera, a bad grip that has tricked the accelerometer of your smartphone, here are two reasons that can justify that your videos are not oriented correctly on the screen.
Once opened on your smartphone or exported to your PC, nothing to do, your videos upside down, preventing you from being able to fully admire your exploits on the slopes during your last ski trip.
This orientation problem is not irreversible and can even be corrected quite easily with a few clicks.
1. Download VLC
If you haven’t already, download and install the VLC media player. A true Swiss Army knife in terms of audio and video playback, this player, open source and free, includes many tools for working with your files. Available on all platforms, VLC is a must have key software, capable of playing almost all audio and video file formats.

2. Open the video in VLC
Launch VLC on your computer and click on the Media menu, then on Open File. Using the file explorer window that opens, locate the video you want to edit, select it and click Open.
3. Access the tools
Once your misoriented video is open in VLC, click on Tools and enter Effects and Filters menu.
In the first row of tabs, go to Video Effects, then in the row of tabs below, enter the Geometry section
4. Apply a rotation
Now is the time to apply a rotation to put your video back in the right direction.
Check the Transformation box. By default, VLC rotates your video 90 °. Open the associated drop-down menu and adjust the rotation to apply to put your video back straight.
Once your video is correctly oriented, press the Save button and then Close
At this point, your video is not saved in its correct orientation. In reality, it is the changed setting that is saved, telling VLC to open the next videos with the desired change applied.
5. Save the video
To save the video you just edited, click the Media menu, then Convert / Save.
In the File selection section, click on the + Add button, select your video file in the file explorer window that appears and click Open
Then click on the Convert / Save button at the bottom of the window, then in the new window that appears, expand the drop-down menu associated with the Profile.
Select the first proposition, Video – H.264 + MP3 (MP4).
In Destination, click on Browse to select a destination directory in which your file will be saved and validate by clicking on Save. Then click on the Start button.
VLC converts the video and saves it in the previously selected directory. You will be able to check the progress of the video export using the cursor displayed directly in the playback window.
Before closing VLC, remember to restore the rotation preferences configured in step 4 to their original state.
To do this, you can also Reset the preferences of the software by going to Tools then in Preferences, otherwise the next videos opened with VLC will be automatically played with the rotation configured previously.
