Sometimes you just really don’t want to be disturbed and then notifications on your phone are not desirable. By turning on the Do Not Disturb function, notifications will still come in, but your phone will not light up. This way you will no longer be distracted when you receive messages. In principle, all androidphones, just like iPhones, have a Do Not Disturb feature, but you need to know how to enable it and adjust it if necessary. Fortunately, this is not very complicated. After swiping down from the top of the screen, tap Do not disturb.
To adjust
You can then adjust a few things, for example if you still want to see notifications from certain senders. Go to Sound and vibration in the Settings app on your smartphone and tap Do not disturb. below Allowing ‘Do Not Disturb’ to be interrupted you can decide exactly what you want to block or allow.
For example, you can block phone calls or messages. This can be all calls or messages, but you can also indicate that certain callers are given priority. If they then call you, the call will not be blocked. You will also find the option in the same menu Allow returning callers. If a contact calls you twice within fifteen minutes, the phone call comes through. Such options are also available to people who text you.
Under the menu Allowing ‘Do Not Disturb’ to be interrupted you can also control which apps are allowed to send you notifications. Finally, you have the choice to allow or block alarms and other interruptions, such as reminders or calendar appointments.
Time
It is then possible to set how long the Do Not Disturb function should remain on. You can also do this in the Do Not Disturb menu, but under Expensive for ‘Quick Settings’. If you enable the Do Not Disturb feature here, you can choose how long it should remain on: until you turn the option off yourself or after a certain time.
If you want to let the person who is trying to call you know that you are currently unavailable, you can also do this in the Do not disturb menu at automatic answer. Specify which contacts should receive a message when they send you a text message and what that message should look like, for example ‘I am driving a car and I will see your message when I arrive at my destination’.
