WhatsApp has released a new update that makes it possible to set up two WhatsApp accounts on one iPhone. But there is a catch.
Two WhatsApp accounts on one iPhone
Secretly, it has long been possible to set up two WhatsApp accounts on one iPhone. But before that you had to set up an account in the WhatsApp app and a second one in the other app: WhatsApp Business.
That was quite cumbersome, but in one new blog post from WhatsApp it can be read that there will be an official way to set up two WhatsApp accounts on a single iPhone. At the moment, the feature is only available on Android, but WhatsApp usually releases updates to iPhones a little later.
The feature is especially useful if you regularly need to switch between accounts, such as a work account and personal account. You don’t have to log out every time or take two phones with you.
There is a catch, because to set up two WhatsApp accounts on your iPhone you need a second telephone number and SIM card. This second SIM card may of course also be an eSIM.
Do you have two SIM cards? Then WhatsApp says that you can add the second account in the settings. You then determine the privacy and notification settings for each account.
WhatsApp on iPad
It’s nice that you will soon be able to set up two accounts in WhatsApp on an iPhone, but what about WhatsApp on the iPad? A beta version is available, but only through TestFlight.
TestFlight is a service from Apple that allows developers to distribute beta versions for testing purposes. Places are strictly limited, so you cannot simply register.
This indicates that the release will not take too long. Depending on how stable and smoothly the beta runs, we could see a final release by the end of the year. We certainly hope so!
