Allow your loved ones to follow your journey by sharing your location in real time.
Taking long trips in the car, going for a hike, going for a long session of running, or coming home late from a drunken night are all reasons for those close to you to worry when you are traveling alone.
To reassure them but also to reassure you if you are not comfortable with the idea of traveling alone, Google Maps includes a function allowing you to share your location in real time. The people you have enabled sharing with can then track your movements on a map until you reach your destination.
To work, however, the option requires constant access to the GPS of your device, which can affect its autonomy.
1. Access location sharing
Open Google Maps on your smartphone, and open the menu on the left in the search bar. Press Location Sharing to access the settings for the feature.

2. Configure sharing
Press the “Start” button at the bottom of the screen and choose the length of time to share your location. By default, Google Maps offers to share your trips for one hour. Change the duration if necessary, or select “Until deactivated” to stop sharing manually.

3. Choose contacts and share the link
Then select the contact (s) with whom you want to share your location. Google Maps then takes care of generating a link that you can share by email, SMS or other.

Your loved ones then just have to click on the link received to follow your movements in real time on Google Maps from their PC or smartphone.
