When you use Windows 10, you know that the system downloads updates in the background, so that you can install them quickly afterwards. But what if you find that annoying or want to avoid it for another reason? It’s quite annoying that you have to reboot the system after downloading, so it’s good to take a look at this.
The reason Microsoft ever set this up this way is to ensure that every PC and laptop runs on the latest version of the operating system and everyone has a safe working environment. However, some problems sometimes appear on the screen, which can also be a reason to sometimes wait a while before updating. Fortunately, you can arrange this yourself via the Settings of your PC.
We have created a beautiful online course for Windows 10. Together with a 180-page book, you will learn everything about this operating system. With extra practice questions to test your knowledge and clear video tutorials where the advanced parts of Windows 10 are explained even more for you.
Stop automatic updates Windows 10
If you open the Settings and go to Update and security , you will see Windows Update in the menu on the left. You can’t ignore it: the option is at the top. At the bottom of the next page is Advanced Options . Press it so that you see the option Pause updates on the screen afterwards. That option is also at the bottom and has a drop-down menu. Here you can indicate until which date you want to interrupt the updates on Windows 10.
If you confirm your choice, your PC or laptop with Windows 10 will no longer receive updates until that date. Once the date has passed, you will have to update your PC before the option is available again. Do you want to revert the settings? You can also do this via Windows Update, where there is a button with which you can resume updating.
You can also do it a little faster. At the top of the Windows Update screen is the Pause updates for 7 days button. This will prevent your system from downloading and installing updates for a week within seconds. Under the heading Advanced options you can make a maximum of 30 days from 7 days, so that you can quickly change the setting next time.
It is also useful to know that you can change the operating times here. These are the times when you typically use your PC, so Windows 10 won’t bother you between those hours. So if you find that you receive a lot of notifications or are often forced to reboot the system, you can specify here the times when you are often active on your PC or laptop.
