Capture an action moment with burst mode on iPhone. The phone takes several photos in quick succession. That way you always have a nice picture.
Right moment
Burst mode is especially useful for taking action shots. Playing children, sporting people or nice animals are all difficult to photograph. The photo has to be taken at just the right moment, otherwise it will be moved or the subject will not look good. Because many photos are taken in succession with the burst mode, the chance of that one beautiful photo is much greater.
Create burst photo
Taking a burst photo is not much different from taking a regular photo.
- Open the app Camera.
- Make sure the camera app is in photo mode. The word ‘Photo’ at the bottom will then have yellow letters. Optionally, swipe left or right to switch modes.
- Tap and hold the white shutter button. If you have a newer iPhone, you will now make a video. In that case, drag the snooze button to the left (if the phone is vertical) or down (if the phone is horizontal).
- A counter shows you how many pictures you take. Release the shutter button to stop taking pictures.
Storage area
The burst photos, like any other captured photos, are saved in the Photos app. The photo overview shows only one photo from the burst photo series. The other photos are stored in the background. All these photos naturally take up storage space. Therefore, save only the favorite photos.
View burst photo
Check out the series of photos like this:
- Open the app photos.
- Tap the tab Library (as of iOS 14) or photos (iOS 13).
- A burst photo can be recognized in the overview by a sort of stack of photos. Tap the photo.
- A photo from the series is displayed large. At the top left is how many photos the series consists of. Tap on Select to view all photos.
- Swipe left and right to view the captured photos.
- At the top right, tap Ready to return to the main photo.
Delete burst photos
Save your favorite photos and delete the rest to save space. The favorites all come separately in the photo overview of the Photos app.
- Open the app photos.
- Tap the tab Library (as of iOS 14) or photos (iOS 13).
- Tap the burst photo.
- Tap at the bottom Select.
- Tap the photos you want to keep.
- The selected photos get a check mark. At the top right, tap Ready.
- Tap on Keep only X favorites to delete the unselected photos. The ‘X’ represents the number of photos selected. Do you still want to keep all the photos in the background? Then tap keep all.
