Microsoft’s operating system has everything you need to trim your video files. Here’s how to extract a passage from a video without third-party software.
Extracting a specific passage from a video stored on your computer’s hard drive is much easier than it looks. Contrary to what you may believe, you won’t need to download any third-party app to complete this task.
Windows 10 natively integrates a tool that will allow you to perform the operation in a few seconds. Find out how to trim video with just a few clicks on your computer.
1. Choose the program with which to open the video
Open File Explorer and go to the directory where your video is stored. Right-click on the file, then in the context menu, go to Open with then choose Photos, the Windows image viewer.

2. Edit the file
When your video is open in Photos, click the Edit & Create menu and then choose Trim Video.

3. Select the passage to extract
You must then select the portion of the video that you want to extract. To do this, move the white bullets directly using the mouse to choose the start (1) and end of the passage (2) that you want to keep.
You can start playing the clip to make sure it contains exactly the frames you want or directly move the green playback slider (3) displayed on the video timeline.

4. Save the extract
Once the passage of the video has been selected, click on the Save a copy button at the top right of the window.

Photos should then start exporting a new clip consisting of the defined video passage. The extract file will be automatically saved in the same directory as the one where the initial video is stored.
