Apple’s operating system displays a thumbnail preview every time a screenshot is taken. Here’s how to turn it off.
If you are using a Mac and you happen to take screenshots using the tool built into macOS, you may have noticed that there is a thumbnail preview thumbnail at the bottom right of the screen.
Very practical, this thumbnail allows, in one click, to open the screenshot in the editing tool to annotate it, crop the image, etc. However, some users may find the systematic presence of this preview very annoying, especially since it slows down the recording of the capture on the macOS desktop. To no longer have to undergo it, it is possible to deactivate it.
1. Open the Screenshot app
Open Spotlight, find the Screenshot app and open it with a double click. Alternatively, from the Finder, go to Applications, then to the Utilities directory where Screenshot is located.
2. Access the options
Then click on the Options menu displayed in the Screen Capture toolbar. Uncheck the Show floating thumbnail option and close Screenshot.
Any screenshots you take now will be taken without the preview thumbnail displayed.
However, you can go back very easily by re-enabling the Show floating thumbnail option from the Screenshot application.
