Mozilla has unveiled an app that makes it easier to save and manage screenshots on Android.
Taking a screenshot on an Android smartphone is not always easy. If, most of the time, the key combination of Volume Down + Power works to take a screenshot, the handling can be different depending on the manufacturer.
Developers working at Mozilla in Asia have therefore imagined Firefox ScreenshotGo, an application simplifying the realization and management of screenshots on Android.
Once installed and configured, it allows you to take screenshots on the fly, with a simple tap on the screen, manage the images saved in a dedicated library, and even extract the displayed text on images using an optical character recognition system.
1. Download Firefox ScreenshotGo
Currently only available on the Indonesia Play Store, Firefox ScreenshotGo is still under development. The application can however be installed by anyone, by directly downloading the APK file to their Android terminal.

2. Configure the application
The first time you launch Firefox ScreenshotGo, you will be asked to authorize the application to access your data.

You can also, if you wish, activate the GO button by clicking on Grant Permission and then activating the app overlay.

You don’t have to do this immediately, and you can always activate the GO button later, if you wish, by going to the settings of the application and then activating the Enable GO button menu.

3. Take a capture
If you have enabled the GO button, you should see a floating button displayed on the screen. Keep your finger pressed on it to move it as you wish, and simply tap it once to start recording a capture.

The saved image is displayed in a pop-up, while the application offers you, if you wish, to store the screenshot in a category.

ScreenshotGo running in the background, it is also possible to take a screenshot by deploying the notification center, then pressing the notification dedicated to Screenshotgo.

4. Organize your screenshots
All the screenshots taken with ScreenshotGo are saved in the native directory dedicated to them on Android, but the application also offers you to access and organize them thanks to a Collections system. To create a new category, press + Create New Collection. The latest saved captures are displayed in a Quick Access quick access menu, while all uncategorized captures are categorized in the Unsorted section.

Filing a screenshot into a collection can be done at the time of capture or later. To store a capture, open it, press the three small dots at the top right, then click Move to… and choose the collection in which to store the capture.

5. Extract text from a capture
You may have taken a screenshot to keep important information. If you want, Firefox ScreenshotGo lets you extract the text displayed on a capture.
To do this, simply open a capture from the application and press the green button displayed at the bottom right. The application’s OCR module runs and displays the text extracted from the capture in a floating pane. You just have to select the text and copy it for use in another application.
