Access the content of your machine or take control of a remote computer directly through the Google web browser.
Google has just announced the end of its Google Remote Desktop application for June 30. This application, which allows you to access the content of a computer or to take advantage of remote assistance, is replaced by a web interface.
This Remote Desktop web version simplifies the connection process as much as possible on the PC side wishing to access the content of a machine or to assist a PC remotely.
If the source machine still requires the installation of an extension and a host access module, the computer that comes to provide assistance no longer needs to install an application and can now perform all operations. from the Google Chrome 75 browser.
What to install on the source PC
Whether you want to remotely access the content of your own machine, or you are looking for a way to provide IT support on a loved one’s computer, you will first have to install several elements on the source computer: the latest version of Google Chrome, the Remote Desktop extension for Chrome, as well as the Host Access Module paired with the extension.

Once the latest version of Google Chrome is installed on the source computer, all you have to do is go to the web interface of Chrome remote desktop.
Two options are then offered: Remote access, and Remote assistance.
The first allows, as its name suggests, remote access to a PC and all of its content (files, programs, etc.). The second offers an Assistance function, which allows to authorize a remote user to take control of your, or on the contrary that you can, you, take control of the machine of a relative from your home.
Note that you will need to log into your Google account to continue.
Whether you are on the Remote Access or Remote Assistance tab, click the download button to Configure Remote Access.
A Chrome Web Store window opens. Click on Add to Chrome, then on Add extension to validate the installation of the extension on your web browser.
During this time, the chromeremotedesktophost.msi module is downloaded.
Click the Accept and install button, then click Yes in the pop-up that appears, to validate the installation of the host module on the machine.
Configure Remote Access
Now that all the elements are installed on the source machine, click on the Activate button to finalize the remote desktop configuration from the Remote Access tab.
Then choose a name for your computer and tap Next.
Then enter an access code, confirm it and click on Start. This will be essential later so that you can access the content of your PC remotely. Your PC should then be displayed as online.
Now go to the Chrome Remote Desktop from another computer and sign in to your Google Account.
Logically, your remote machine should appear online. Click on it to initiate a connection and enter your connection code.
Configure Remote Assistance
Remote assistance allows you to give or take control of a remote PC. Ideal for helping a loved one in the use of their computer, Remote Assistance can be used at the home of those who come to the aid, directly from Chrome, without the need to install anything.
To take control remotely on a PC, ask the person who needs your help to go to the page Chrome Remote Desktop in the Remote Assistance tab, click on Generate a code and give you the code displayed.
On your side, also go to the page Chrome Remote Desktop in the Remote Assistance tab. In the Provide Help section, enter the Access Code given to you and click Connect.
Your loved one’s remote PC should display an alert asking them to Share their PC. Once the button is clicked, the connection between the two computers should be established.
From your Google Chrome window, you can browse the remote computer as if you were in front of it.
You can also access or take control of a remote computer from an iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone by downloading the dedicated application.
