How to use humidity and temperature sensor in a HomePod 2nd generation and HomePod mini

The HomePod mini and HomePod 2nd generation contain a humidity and temperature sensor. This allows you to measure the temperature and humidity in a room. Ideal for your Smart Home.

Not only can you ask Siri for the values or find them in the Home app, you can also activate automations. This includes automatically closing the blinds or switching on a fan when the temperature in a room reaches a certain value.

Measure temperature with HomePod

Just like the second generation HomePod, the HomePod mini contains a built-in humidity and temperature sensor. The sensor is activated from software update 16.3 and can be used in the Home app.

Temperature and humidity sensing are optimized for typical indoor conditions, with temperatures between 15 ºC and 30 ºC, and relative humidity between 30% and 70%. Accuracy may decrease when audio is played at high volume for extended periods of time. HomePod takes some time to calibrate the sensors immediately after booting up, after which the results are shown.

Consult humidity and temperature

  • Open the Home app
  • Navigate to the ‘Property’ tab
  • Tap ‘Climate’ at the top
  • Select ‘Temperature’ or ‘Humidity’
