Google has just launched an extension for Google Chrome to check if your connection passwords have been compromised.
Are your passwords secure enough? If, like many Internet users, you use the same login password for all the sites on which you are registered, it may be time to worry about the security of your accounts. While the many recently discovered data breaches may not be so serious, finding your username and password in a data breach can be frightening.
Online services, like Have I Been Pwned? already allow you to check whether your identifiers have been found in databases that have leaked on the web. Google, however, decided to offer users of its Chrome web browser an easy way to monitor whether their passwords have been compromised using an extension.
Password Checkup, that’s its name, works hand in hand with Google Chrome’s built-in password manager. Once in place, the extension displays an alert whenever one of your usernames and passwords has been found in one of the many data breaches.
1. Download Password Checkup
First, download the Password Checkup extension for Google Chrome. Offered for free by Google, the extension uses passwords stored in Chrome’s built-in password manager to check if the password is part of a known Google data breach.

2. Change compromised passwords
Go to a login page for a site you are used to visiting. When your password was not found in one of Google’s many known data breaches, Password Checkup displays a green icon.
However, when Password Checkup detects that your password is no longer secure due to its presence within a data breach, the icon turns red and the extension prompts you to change the compromised password. on the field.
To do this, you must first log into the compromised account using the password in question. You will then have to go to the site’s connection settings in order to change your password.
Logically, when you click on the field for the new password, Google Chrome should suggest a secure password. Click on it to fill in the first password field. The second field for confirming the new password should automatically be completed.
Validate the modification of your password. Google Chrome should automatically update your new password in the dedicated manager.
Be careful, however, if you do not use Chrome on all your machines, you will need to memorize this complex password to enter it later by hand.
