The Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei is working on its own EV, according to insiders. The move is said to be the result of US sanctions forcing the company to explore other markets.
This news is not much more than a rumor for the time being. Huawei even clearly denies that it is working on an EV, but the Reuters news agency does see indications for this. Various sources have said that Huawei is already in talks with Chinese car giant Changan and other carmakers about the production of the alleged EV, traditionally a major stumbling block for new car makers.
As a direct reason, the sanctions that Huawei was imposed from the United States are indicated. Under President Trump, Huawei was identified as a potential threat to national security for a variety of reasons. The placement on this black list apparently did not miss its target, because international growth in the areas usual for Huawei would have been considerably more difficult as a result.
Huawei certainly wouldn’t be the first phone manufacturer to come up with EV plans. An Apple car has been talked about for years, in the final stage in a collaboration with Hyundai that now seems to be out of the question. According to the insiders, Huawei would like to officially announce its similar project later this year. We wait calmly.
Huawei was founded in 1987 and has grown in recent years into one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. The company is also gigantic when it comes to telecommunications networks, although there was a serious hitch in the cable due to suspicions of espionage by the Chinese government via 5G networks supplied by Huawei.
