Later also fully electric
The Chevrolet Corvette and hybrid driving were once incompatible, but times are changing. The Corvette also gets a hybrid powertrain. We don’t have to wait long for the E-Ray.
A Chevrolet Corvette with a part-electric powertrain, isn’t that cursing in church? Well, it will be bad for Chevrolet by now, because hybrid supercars are not that special anymore. In a world in which even Dodge pushes the combustion engine aside, the Corvette can also experience electric driving for the first time. Last summer, the hybrid Corvette already ran test laps on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and now the unveiling is imminent. In a video in which we briefly see the Corvette E-Ray, Chevrolet announces that the curtain will go down on Tuesday, January 17.
Exactly what forces are at work in the hybrid C8 is not yet known. In any case, there is a good chance that the Corvette E-Ray simply has the 6.2 V8 as its beating heart, but that it receives support from an electric motor that drives the front wheels. That would make it not only the first hybrid Corvette ever, but also the first with all-wheel drive. In the video we also see that the Chevrolet Corvette will get a ‘Stealth’ mode, in which the car will probably run purely electrically. With a mode with such a name, Corvette tries to package it as tough as possible. You can bet that pure electric driving will not last very long, but Chevrolet is already working on a solution for those who want to go further electrically. There is also a fully electric Corvette on the way. You can already hear it: all sacred cows are going down.
