The Honda HR-V was recently taken out of production, but we don’t have to do without it for long. Honda will present the completely new second generation HR-V to the world on February 18.
Honda recently discontinued production of the HR-V marketed in 2015. Although the HR-V has not proven to be a sales stunner in Europe, Honda already has a successor in the development chambers. Not surprising, the HR-V is a compact crossover and cars in that segment are just very popular. With the second-generation HR-V, Honda hopes to play a bigger role in the hard-won segment of compact SUVs.
Honda HR-V (spyshots)
Honda already shows something on two teaser photos. They confirm that the HR-V is slightly more exciting than its predecessor. A previously caught test specimen drew attention, among other things, with its higher, longer snout and more sloping roofline, complete with a flat rear window. One of the teaser photos already shows the sloping butt of the new HR-V.
Honda indicated in 2019 that it will equip every car destined for Europe with an electrified powertrain from 2025. And that means that the HR-V only comes with us with the e: HEV hybrid powertrain we already know from the Jazz. We will know more on 18 February, when the new HR-V will make its public debut.
Honda HR-V in the Netherlands
The HR-V has not exactly turned out to be a top seller in the Netherlands. Since the re-introduction of the model name in 2015, less than 2,000 units have been sold in our country. Only in 2016 (587 units) did the sales figures exceed 500 units. In 2017, 2018 and 2019, 389, 308 and 307 HR-Vs were successively sold. Last year, sales fell to 223 units.
