Hybrids are again more popular among lease drivers

In the first half of this year, the number of hybrid-powered lease cars grew significantly again compared to last year. EVs and plug-in hybrids too, although that growth is clearly less.

Figures from lease company ALD Automotive show that as many as 32 percent more hybrid vehicles were leased in the first six months of 2020 than last year in that period. Please note; this only concerns hybrids without a plug. Plug-ins and fully electric cars were leased 5 percent more in the past six months than last year. That while the addition for EVs this year is still less favorable than last year. Chances are that the lion’s share of that 5 percent comes from plugins, although that percentage is not stated separately.

Jeroen Kruisweg, director of ALD Automotive, states that while the ‘greening’ of the lease car fleet is visibly accelerating, EVs are at risk of lagging behind: “We see that the hybrid plays an increasingly important role in this when we compare it with the fully electric car. The acceleration of the greening will therefore benefit greatly from an attractive addition scheme for fully electric driving. “

The most popular lease cars with a (partly) electric powertrain according to ALD:

  1. Kia Niro
  2. Tesla Model 3
  3. Volvo XC40
  4. Volvo V60
  5. Ford Puma
  6. Volvo XC60
  7. Audi E-tron
  8. Ford Mondeo
  9. Hyundai Kona
  10. Ford Kuga
