In February, the legendary design house Zagato presented us with the AGTZ Twin Tail. That Alpine A110 with a ‘change-button’ is now really here, shining on Lake Como and on your screen.

Small car brands, tuners and design houses in particular tend to present a new car that does not even exist yet. The AGTZ Twin Tail was clearly a ‘render’ in February, but now it clearly really pops off your screen. That should be the case, because during the Fuoriconcorso event (linked to the Villa d’Este competition) you can ‘simply’ view this car in real life this weekend on Lake Como.

The AGTZ TWin Tail is an Alpine A110 under the skin, but gets a completely new body from Zagato and the Polish La Squadra. It is based on the Alpine A220 racer from the 1960s and therefore remains true to the Alpine theme. As with the A220, the Twin Tail’s ‘party trick’ is its tail section. The A220 started its life in a long form and was then shortened, with the Twin Tail you can make that choice every day. The butt of this hyper-exclusive sports car can be removed or reinstalled at will, so that buyers have the choice between a more elegant long carriage or a muscular short one. The length difference is significant: with butt the Twin Tail is 4,799 mm long, without 4,305 mm.

Regardless of the chosen rear, the carriage of the Twin Tail is completely unique, so the center ship and even the glasswork are also different from an Alpine A110. Underneath the skin, not much seems to have changed in the Alpine. There is still a 1.8-liter turbo in front of the rear axle, which delivers a basic 252 hp. That does not stop the inventors of the Twin Tail from asking a hefty amount for this car, which should cost no less than €650,000 without taxes. Then you have something special, because only nineteen examples were built.
