Hyundai ’45’ EV tastes at the ‘Ring

Hyundai has a new electric crossover in the barrel, a car that has already surfaced in a test suit, but which always shows a bit more of its striking design.

The Frankfurt IAA was the podium last year on which Hyundai presented the quirky 45 Concept. With that show car, the brand paid tribute to the model that actually started the Hyundai adventure: the 1978 Pony. Although Hyundai has always kept tight-lipped about production plans, a prototype very similar to the study model is already once appeared before the lens of our spy photographer. That it is coming is beyond dispute and today a slightly less fanatically packed test copy has surfaced.

The upcoming EV from Hyundai, which we conveniently refer to as ’45’ for convenience, was caught during the test rounds at the Nürburgring. Broadly speaking, Hyundai seems to remain faithful to the design of the 45 Concept for its future model. This means that the final production version will also be a slightly high-positioned hatchback with a relatively flat rear window and a straight sloping butt. It is not inconceivable that the minimalist design of the interior of the 45 Concept also seeps through to the final production version to some extent.

The ’45’ is most likely on a modular platform specially developed for new EVs from Hyundai that has been christened E-GMP. Next year we expect to see more of the final car.
