The list of car manufacturers in North America that are following the example of Tesla with its NACS charging connections continues to grow. Now Hyundai and Kia also announce that they are switching to it.
Tesla set the tone in North America with its extensive Supercharger network and although it has now also been opened to other brands, many EVs still find it difficult to use it. After all, this requires Tesla’s NACS (North American Charging Standard) connection. Various car manufacturers decided this year to also use the NACS connection on their cars. Hyundai and Kia are the latest to join this trend. They were preceded by Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Nissan, among others.
Hyundai states that the first cars with a NACS connection will be delivered in the US at the beginning of 2024. In Canada, Hyundai will follow in the first half of 2025. Kia will deliver the first NACS ported cars to all of North America at the end of 2024. Anyone who already has an electric Hyundai or Kia with a CCS connection will receive an adapter from Hyundai from early 2025. Conversely, an adapter is also offered for cars with the NACS connection, so that they can continue to charge at charging stations with a CCS connection.
