Hyundai and Kia will invest billions of dollars in electric vehicle production in the United States over the next few years. Both brands are also committed to expanding the use of hydrogen there.
Hyundai Motor announces that it will invest a total of $ 7.4 billion (converted € 6.1 billion) by 2025 in, among other things, the production of electric cars in the United States. That investment benefits both Hyundai and Kia. In concrete terms, the money is intended to prepare the factories in Alabama (Hyundai) and Georgia (Kia) for the construction of electric cars, but also for the expansion of mobility services.
From next year, both brands want to be able to offer more electric models to the American customer. Currently, Hyundai offers the Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric, Kia de Niro EV. Undoubtedly, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 will be added, but also electric models to be revealed.
In addition to BEVs, the investment is also intended for a broader use of hydrogen. Think of setting up hydrogen filling stations for both the Hyundai Nexo, which is also available in the US, but also for trucks with a fuel cell on board. The latter in particular is an important spearhead for Hyundai in the US. Next year it wants to show more in this area.
