Almost 10 percent

Hyundai and Kia have never taken such a big slice of the European car sales pie as in the past six months. This is according to figures from the European trade association ACEA.
Here in the Netherlands, Hyundai and especially Kia have been doing very well for years and South Koreans are also doing quite well at European level, according to the sales figures of the past six months. ACEA estimates that Hyundai took a market share of 4.7 percent in our part of the world in the first six months of 2022. Hyundai proudly reports that this is a record, last year it took a share of 3.7 percent in the first half. Hyundai sold 263,005 cars, 8.2 percent more than last year. Kia also went to an all-time high, with a market share of 5.2 percent, up from 3.9 percent last year. 293,364 new Kias were registered in the first half of 2022, a staggering 16.8 percent more than last year.
Thus, in Europe, specifically the EU, EFTA and the United Kingdom, nearly 1 in 10 of new cars sold from January to June was a Hyundai or Kia. In total, the Hyundai Group with Hyundai and Kia accounts for 9.9 percent of sales, which puts it in third place in terms of car groups. Stellantis (19.4 percent) and the Volkswagen Group (24.1 percent) are still a long way off, but are of course also represented by many more brands.
