Ready for sales boost
The Hyundai Bayon has been on the market for almost three years now. So time for a facelift. The compact crossover gets a new snout and is also sharpened at the rear.
Hyundai certainly has no shortage of crossovers and SUV-like vehicles. In the Netherlands the brand has the Santa Fe, the Nexo, the Tucson and of course the popular Kona. In 2021, Hyundai added a new crossover to its lineup: the Bayon. The Hyundai Bayon is one step below the Kona on the status ladder and has made almost 2,800 Dutch people happy since its Dutch market introduction. The car has been on the market for about three years now and so Hyundai is now carrying out a facelift on the Bayon.
The facelifted Hyundai Bayon remains mainly recognizable as Bayon. We certainly cannot blame anyone who does not remember the car very well for not immediately seeing the differences between the updated variant and the original. Surely they are there. Particularly at the front. The facelifted Hyundai Bayon retains its front with lighting spread over two layers. As before, the LED daytime running lights are again incorporated in flat modules that are located high in the Bayon snout. From now on, however, they will be optically linked together by an LED strip. Hyundai has of course put a name to that. The LED strip goes by the name Seamless Horizon Lamp. Go ahead.
The shape of the actual headlights lower on the front does not change. However, the opening placed underneath is different in shape. This newly formed air slot is now incorporated in a black panel that fits closely with the new grille. From now on, there is no longer a colored piece of bumper between the headlights, the air vent and the grille. The grille itself is a lot flatter, but above all it has become wider. The lower part of the front bumper has also been renewed.
Less changes at the rear of the Hyundai Bayon. Here we mainly notice a refreshed rear bumper with new modules for, among other things, the reversing light. The boomerang-shaped taillights, which were connected from the start, are retained. More visual news is smaller in nature. For example, Hyundai is bringing new 16-inch wheels to its crossover and four new exterior colors are available: Lumen Gray Pearl, Meta Blue Pearl, Lucid Lime Metallic and Vibrant Blue Pearl.
The Bayon has a 4.2-inch digital display behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch multimedia screen as standard. A 10.25-inch digital clock shop is optionally available. From now on, everything will fall through the cracks over-the-air updates to keep it up to date. Hyundai brings two USB-C ports and a USB-A connection to the interior of the Bayon. Detailed news: the interior is now illuminated with LED lights. So no more light bulbs in the Bayon. On the list of safety systems we come across things such as an active lane assistant, an emergency braking assistant that, among other things, warns of crossing traffic when taking a bend.
We do not yet have any information regarding the Dutch market and Hyundai does not reveal anything about the powertrains. This suggests that the well-known 100 hp mild-hybrid 1.0 T-GDI with iMT manual gearbox will simply return.
Hyundai Bayon in the Netherlands
The Hyundai Bayon was introduced in 2021 and managed to record 585 registrations in its first Dutch sales year. In 2022, 1,203 units were registered in the Netherlands. Last year, the Bayon achieved 991 registrations. The Hyundai Bayon is therefore not a runner in our country. For comparison: the Kona – which is available as a Hybrid and as an EV – achieved 3,048 registrations. The Bayon’s lower hatchback brother – the i20 – also did a lot better with 1,705 registrations last year.
