Hyundai Elantra N TCR is new racing monster

Hyundai arrives at the Beijing Motor Show with a new addition to its TCR range: the Elantra N TCR. The brand wants to offer racing teams a greater choice with this model.

It is not exactly a surprise that Hyundai comes with a seventh-generation race version of the Elantra. After all, spy photos of a camouflaged specimen surfaced in June. The racing version of the Elantra has of course been heavily rebuilt. It is equipped with an extreme body kit and spoiler work. One of the most striking design elements is the centrally placed exhaust in the rear bumper. Furthermore, the copy in the press photos has striking stickers with a prominent place in front of Hyundai’s N logo. Ultimately, customer teams can of course decide for themselves what for livery feed them on their cars.

According to Hyundai, the Elantra N TCR has been rebuilt from the ground up, with the engineers from the Customer Racing department building on the experience already gained with the i30 N TCR and the Veloster N TCR. In line with the regulations in force in the touring car class, the Elantra is equipped with a 2.0 four-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive. Via a sequential gearbox with six gears, the four-cylinder releases an unspecified power to the front wheels. However, expect at least 355 hp and 450 Nm, which is after all the power that the Veloster N TCR already has on board.

The TCR version of the Elantra is intended for teams based in the markets where the street version is sold, namely the US, Asian and Australian markets. In the Netherlands, the Elantra, which can be considered as a competitor to the sedan versions of the Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3, among others, is not sold. Hyundai is currently completing the final tests with the Elantra N TCR. The first copies must be delivered to customer teams before the end of 2020.
