Hyundai expands partnership with battery supplier

Hyundai and battery supplier SK Innovation Co. expand their collaboration. The South Korean battery maker would supply battery packs to Hyundai from next year, but the two will also work together on a more sustainable way to deal with batteries.

With the electrification of the global vehicle fleet, millions of batteries will be prepared in no time at all these years to provide electric cars with their energy. As is already known, this is the most damaging process in the construction of an EV. That is why it is good to handle the batteries with care. The Hyundai Motor Group will work on this together with the South Korean SK Innovation Co.

The collaboration looks at various aspects, including smart sales solutions and the reuse or recycling of batteries from electric cars. When re-using the batteries, a second life is sought for the batteries that can no longer be used in vehicles. These can be used, for example, in energy storage systems. In addition, both companies will also be looking at the reduction of CO2 emissions during the production of the battery packs in the coming period.

As mentioned, both companies are no strangers to each other. SK Innovation Co. was already designated by Hyundai as the supplier of the battery packs for Hyundai’s new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The brand will start working with this new basis from next year.
