Hyundai Exter: pocket-sized crossover

Hyundai Exter: pocket-sized crossover

Hyundai has released the first clearer images of the Exter. The Hyundai Exter is a new extremely compact crossover that completely leaves the Dutch market for what it is. In fact, he is not coming to Europe either.

In the Netherlands, the Bayon, based on the technology of the i20, is Hyundai’s smallest high-legged car. One car market is not the other, so it is not surprising that the Koreans elsewhere in the world have smaller compact crossovers on the menu, such as the smaller and about 4 meters long Venue. Soon Hyundai will launch a small high city rascal on the Indian market that is even smaller: the Exter.

We already wrote about the Hyundai Exter in April when the Indian branch released a first stylized drawing of the model. Now Hyundai has released two images showing the actual car, although the Koreans are keeping images of the rear and interior under wraps for now. The Exter is a compact and relatively ‘chunky’ small crossover, with a relatively high, angular nose containing lighting that is divided over two floors. We see a model with black plastic trim around the wheel arches, attached wheel arches and a C-pillar filled in in a stubborn way.

Hyundai describes the Exter as a crossover that symbolizes travel, leisure and outdoorsadventures. A little one with a high lifestyle content. We aim for the Exter, unlike the Bayon, not to use the K2 platform, but to sit on the smaller K1 base that includes the Kia Picanto and – indeed – the Hyundai i10. ‘Our’ Hyundai i10 goes through life in an adapted form in India as Grand i10. It even has a sedan brother: the Grand i10 Sedan, also called Aura. Hyundai indicates that the Exter will soon be available with a 1.2 petrol engine with a manual five-speed gearbox or a robotised manual gearbox and with a 1.2 that also likes natural gas in addition to petrol. That CNG power source is always tied to the manual gearbox.

The Exter is not coming to Europe and with that another cheerful little Hyundai – just like the Casper reserved for the Korean market earlier – is passing the European and Dutch market.

Do you think Hyundai should bring the Exter to Europe? Why or why not?
